Elizabeth Kulze
Wright, better known by her nickname, Bibber, has had a passion for drawing
and painting since childhood. As a young girl growing up in Greenville,
South Carolina, she enjoyed art classes and drew portraits of people and
family pets. In the seventh grade, she enrolled in life drawing classes
at the Greenville County Museum of Art. She continued her studies in drawing
and painting at the University of Georgia graduating magna cum laude with
a BFA in 1976. While a student there, she spent a summer in Cortona, Italy
with UGA’s Studies Abroad program. Bibber’s portrait career actually began when her three children were quite young. Her pastel drawings of her boys led to commissions to paint friends’ children. Other portrait commissions in various mediums soon followed. Bibber Wright is a portrait painter of extraordinary sensitivity and grace. Equally skilled in pastels and oils, her portraits are fresh and appealing. Her works range from formal traditional poses to portraits that are more casual in pose and style. Incorporating photographs and visiting with her subject, Bibber achieves a striking likeness along with capturing the subject’s personality with her blending of color, light and form. Bibber Wright lives with her husband, Hugh, and children in Greenville, South Carolina. |
